State Supreme Court Justice John Minton Junior will serve a second term in his post. The Bowling Green justice was re-elected yesterday by a unanimous vote by the rest of the bench. Minton was elected to the post in 2008 after just two years with the court.
Kentucky's unemployment is trending downward again. State officials say the figures fell to an eight-point-three-percent rate for the month of April. That's down three-tenths of a point from March. It's the lowest unemployment rate in the state since November of 2008.
A Bowling Green man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for a pair of sex offenses involving a 5-year-old child. 28 yr old Michael Bolton was sentenced by Warren Circuit Judge Steve Wilson on first-degree sodomy; Bolton pleaded guilty to the charges in March.
You may remember him Detective Starsky, fighting crime on the 1970's television show Starsky and Hutch. Now, he's being charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Police say it happened at the Hilton Garden Inn, last week. Glaser was in town talking to children about his new book, later that day he was cited by police. They say he was very cooperative, and notified them he was prescribed the drug in California, where he lives. However, that prescription is no good in Kentucky; No arrest was made in this incident, because it was not a large enough amount and no or evidence he was selling the drug.
Taylor Swift has taught a generation of kids to appreciate country music over the last five years. Now, she's donating $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to make sure that education continues. Officials say the gift is the largest given to the museum by an artist and is the second largest from an individual. It will fund the Taylor Swift Education Center, an exhibit and classroom space scheduled to open in 2014. The new education center is part of the museum's $75 million expansion. It will allow the museum to add to its youth education programs and will include interactive activities such as a musical petting zoo and a space to make concert posters.

A car wreck in Alvaton last night has claimed the life of a woman; According to the Warren County Sheriff's Department the woman was traveling southbound along Scottsville Road when she lost control and cut across a median around 10 p.m., her car then hit a van that was traveling in the opposite direction. She died on impact; her name has not been released. The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital with serious injuries.
Kentucky State Police arrested 30 yr old Jason Wheat of Barren County on multiple drug charges.
Police responded to a call on Park City- Bon Ayr Road in Park City regarding a drug complaint.
Wheat has been charged with manufacturing meth possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana after a search of the scene. He is currently being held in Barren County Jail on a 25 thousand dollar bond.
One deputy in a federal case against three members of the Barren County Sheriff's Office allegedly violated the conditions of his release, and will be required to appear in court to defend why his release should not be modified or revoked. One of the conditions of release for Deputy Aaron Bennett, Sheriff Chris Eaton and Deputy Eric Guffey was the agreement that none of the defendants intentionally contact government witnesses. Bennett allegedly spoke to or intimidated two different witnesses in April and May, one of whom was previously identified as a government witness and one of whom had not been named as a witness.

The School of Nursing at WKU is getting a big breakthrough. Commonwealth Health wants to build a new building next to the Medical Center Complex to be primarily used for WKU's nursing school. WKU President Gary Ransdell said, Western will be able to double the number of nursing students.
A driver is recovering after getting trapped in his car in Woodburn, yesterday. The Warren County Sheriff's Department says the driver was traveling south on Nashville Road, when he tried to pass another vehicle in front of him. They say he then swerved onto Perry Martin Road and hit a telephone pole. Rescue crews used the jaws of life to get him out, he was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Simpson County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for 43 yr old John Price, of Nashville, who is a registered sex offender in Tennessee. His car was found early Sunday morning at a boat ramp along Drake's Creek off of Ky. 73. Yesterday morning, deputies found a two-man raft floating on the creek near the area where Price had parked his car. Inside the raft, deputies found documents, false teeth and identification that belong to Price. Anyone with information should call 270-586-8819 or 270-782-2010 and ask for Detective Lawson.
The 19-year-old former Middle Tennessee State student charged with killing her roommate last year was found guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Shanterrica Madden was found guilty in the death of MTSU women's basketball player, Tina Stewart; Madden faces 15 to 25 years for the murder and another three to six for tampering with evidence.
"The Hollywood Reporter" says the new drama show "Nashville" is getting picked up by ABC. The series was filmed in Nashville and sets the music scene as the backdrop of a drama centering around a star at her peak and another on the rise.

Kentucky State Police are investigating a deadly crash on I-65. Troopers say a southbound trucker veered across the median and into northbound traffic, slamming into an SUV, another tractor-trailer and a pickup truck. The driver of the SUV, 62-year-old Judith Biden of Lexington, was killed in the crash. The wreck shut down I-65 at the Hart-Barren county line for more than ten hours yesterday for investigation and cleanup.
Also this wk-end a five-year-old boy died in a separate crash on I-65 south in Hart County; State Police say a van sideswiped a car, flipping the car, all the drivers and passengers in the 2 vehicles were taken to the hospital, including five-year-old Joseph Randolph of Indianapolis, who was killed in the crash.
A Russellville woman was killed Friday afternoon after the van she was riding in hit the rear of a Ferrell Gas truck that had stopped to cross the railroad tracks on U.S. 68-Ky. 80 outside Auburn.
The hazmat truck, driven by Johnny Richardson, of Russellville, was stopped in the westbound lanes when it was rear ended by an Adaptive Enterprises van, driven by Jackie Manning, of Bowling Green. According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Department; Manning and passenger Bobbie Markham, had to be cut from the vehicle, and both were airlifted to a Nashville hospital, where Markham later died.
Two local schools are among the state’s top 15 high schools in a U.S. News & World Report. Bowling Green High School ranks 10th and Greenwood High School is 13th on the news magazine’s 2012 list of best Kentucky high schools. Bowling Green High School received a silver medal for the fourth year in a row and Greenwood got a silver medal for the first time. U.S. News & World Report analyzed more than 20,000 high schools across the nation, measuring how students scored on proficiency tests compared to state averages, how disadvantaged groups performed and how well the school prepares students for college, using AP testing data. In Kentucky, 58 schools received a gold, silver or bronze medal.

Tennessee murder suspect Adam Mayes is dead and two young girls he's suspected of kidnapping are safe. The FBI says Mayes shot himself in the head as officers closed in. Twelve year old Alexandria Bain and eight-year-old Kyliyah Bain were found nearby and have been taken to a hospital for exams. Mayes is accused of killing the girls' mother, Jo Ann Bain and their 14-year-old sister, Adrienne Bain.
State officials are crying foul over a Medicaid provider's plan to stop paying for a drug to fight addiction. Coventry Cares wants to end the practice of the drug that costs nearly 500-dollars a month to treat addiction. The state says it's a violation of the provider's agreement.
A Cave City business caught fire last night in a blaze that took hours to put out and multiple fire crews to battle. The building that houses Coffey's Concrete Products started burning about 11:30, and at least five volunteer fire departments responded to Ky. 90 and US 31-W. No one was injured in the fire. 12 families were evacuated from the Happy Valley Apartments and taken to the Cave City Community Center until the smoke had cleared.
Kentucky State Police were called to an alleged Arson complaint by the Scottsville Fire Department. It was determined that the house fire on Bent Tree Lane in Scottsville, had been started with the aid of gasoline throughout different parts of the house. The Allen County Grand Jury returned an indictments on 29 yr old Kelvin Roach Jr of Bowling Green, 20 yr old Terry Wilson and 21 yr old Derrick Martin both of Scottsville.
There was some excitement at Bowling Green High School yesterday; when a National Guard Black Hawk helicopter landed in their front yard! The aircraft was at the school as part of the high school's ROTC program. Students were able to get tours of the chopper and learn a bit about aviation.
Two southern Kentucky industries will undergo expansions and add jobs to their respective workforces. Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems will reopen a Scottsville plant shuttered for years. That plant on Smiths Grove Road will bring eight to 10 jobs; workers will make electric wire terminals for automotive wiring harness applications. In Park City, Y.A.M.I. (yahagi America molding) will spend $1 million to expand its facility by 16,000 square feet, and add eight workers. The company makes plastic injection molding for the auto industry, including General Motors, Honda, Nissan and Toyota.
The owners of the new Bluegrass Boardwalk have their sights set on a full season of fun next year. The Koch family says they'll open the redeveloped amusement park on May 11th, 2013. The park is on the site of the former Kentucky Kingdom, will employ 800 seasonal workers and provide the same perks as they do at Holiday World, including free soft drinks and sunscreen.
The U.S. Postal Service plans to keep rural branches in business by cutting the hours of operation in Kentucky. The Postal Service is afloat on a financial red river after a five-billion-dollar loss last year. If plans are approved by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the savings could be up to 500-million dollars a year.

Police and bus drivers are asking motorists to be alert watching for school zone signs and school buses.When you see a school bus with the big yellow lights flashing, that means that the children are present, and you should slow down and look.Most school bus-related fatalities occur while buses are loading or unloading.
A Scottsville man died this week-end in an ATV crash in Simpson County.20 yr old Zackery Ross was traveling west on Harris Road, failed to negotiate a curve and ran off in a ditch.According to State Police Ross was not wearing a helmet, and was thrown from the ATV and was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police also report that eleven people lost their lives on Kentucky roads this past week.Six of the fatalities involved motor vehicles, and five of the victims were not wearing seat belts.There were three fatal crashes involving motorcycles, and one victim was not wearing a helmet.Two fatal crashes involved ATV's, and neither victim was wearing a helmet.Through July 31st 389 people have died on Kentucky roads so far this year.
A warning is being issued by the Better Business Bureau about a scam involving the KFC name. Consumers are seeing e-mails claiming to be from Yum Brands, which is KFC's parent company. The message says you get a 100-dollar KFC gift card by filling out a survey. The survey is a scam that allows you to be contacted by numerous telemarketers. Anyone receiving the e-mail should delete it.
