Alan Austin

Alan’s passion for music began at a young age in Frankfort, Kentucky where he was inspired by local DJs from Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati. He would often record his favorite morning shows and create home recordings of himself playing the role of a DJ. While studying at Western Kentucky University, he was actively involved in the student-run radio station, WWHR-FM, where he covered several on-air shifts and held roles as music director and program director. He also worked part-time at local stations, including WFKY-AM in Frankfort, WLOC-AM in Munfordville, and WBVR-FM in Russellville. Alan graduated from WKU in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcasting and was quickly hired full-time at The Beaver, where he’s now celebrated over 30 years of service. Alan’s especially proud of the station’s fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and has won numerous industry awards for his commercial copywriting and production. A career highlight for Alan was guest hosting at the Grand Ole Opry.
